I drink Dr Pepper, don't ya' know.*
My great-grandfather always had the original little bottles out in the old wash house along with the little cans of Texsun grapefruit juice and the dog food. I can still remember how that place smelled. I miss it.
I drank so much Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper one summer that I really can't drink it anymore. I don't miss that smell.
My mom used to drink DDP back in the day when the cans were blue. I drew one for 6th grade art class.
I've gone to this museum on other road trips between Dallas and Austin. Toured once and stopped for Vanilla Dr Peppers many times more. I love to see all the old bottles, ads and Dr Pepper tchotchke. Makes me want to shop. (What's that? My husband screaming "Noooooooo!" in the background?) Went back this time to refresh my memory (and if I happen to get a Dr Pepper so be it) and it turns out it's the 125th anniversary! Fun! I sat and watched every single Dr Pepper commercial just because I could ( *the words to the DP song are not what I remember. Turns out there were several versions - I'm not crazy). It really is a neat step back in time. Except for this guy:
He scared the shit out of me. He wasn't there last time I was here. Good lord.
(There was another exhibit for kids there about money. Lots of interaction, it looked cool. But I didn't stick around. I had a Dr Pepper to get to.)
On my way there I stopped by the gift shop for a treasure though. Saw Dr Pepper lip gloss - I love Dr Pepper lip gloss! - so I bought it and then went to get my fountain Dr Pepper. Did I explain that? They make it the old-fashioned way - mixing the syrup and soda water over crunchy ice. In a souvenir glass if you want. They also have Blue Bell ice cream drinks, but that'd just be crazy.
Got in the car, drove away, opening my Dr Pepper lip gloss. Wha-... what the hell is this?! Berries & Cream?!?! What kind of abomination to Dr Pepper is that? Blech! How old is this crap? You were discontinued in 2007!! I felt like Tom Hanks in Big when he scrapes the caviar off his tongue. Twenty-three types of blech!
You're not a Pepper, Berries & Cream. You're not a Pepper.
